Professional Development
PIR In-Service: Formative & Summative Assessments
For this In-Service/PIR, teachers discussed and elaborated Formative and Summative assessment in practicum. The discussion was based on an article published by Steven and Jan Chappuis in Educational Leadership Magazine. We discussed activities in our own classrooms, and how they divided into both Summative and Formative assessments. Not only did I further understand the roles Summative and Formative Assessments play in the classroom, I also gained numerous new ideas for activities to better my own classroom. For a full reflection on this In-Service, see the attached document.
PIR In-Service: Common Core
While I was not a part of this In-Service for very long due to teaching requirements, I still feel this opportunity was worth mentioning for this section. Flathead High School's English Department is currently trying to align their own current curriculum with the Common Core standards.
